Task 11: Recommended tools for social media engagement.

Facebook:

I would reccomend Facebook as it is one of the most popular social media tools you can use to reach new and current users. Facebook is also simple to use and you wont have to worry about any layout design and themes to apply. A lot of business use facebook as their main point of reference instead of a website. Not only is facebook a  great advertisement tool but also a good communication tool as users can comment on posts made by the library or message privately for enquires they may have.

Instagram:

Instagram is another social media tool I would reccomend as it is most popular with the younger generation, so it would be great for libraries to connect with kids and keep them interested in their local community library. It is a video and image sharing site that is easy to navigate. It is also great for communicating with customers as there is a messaging and comment feature.

Task 10: Commenting on another blog.

After I visited Sharon's blog and visited the link for the Roxy Communirt Theatre I posted a comment but made a spelling mistake and deleted it and posted my comment again with the spelling mistake corrected:

I hope to visit the Roxy Community Theare one day. The last movie I watched was Hereditary...quite a dark and unexpected movie.

Task 9: Changing the arrangement of my blog.

I decided to move my blog posts onto the right side and the sidebar widgets onto the left so that it looks cleaner. I have moved the widgets around so that they look less cluttered. I moved the search this blog widget to the top of the left side to make it easier for users to access. I removed the search by email widget as I see no use for it. I have also adjusted the left column of widgets to be one column instead of two as I did not need many widgets featured of my page. I have also changed the width of the left side coloumn to be smaller so that the blog posts take up more room on the right since they are the main focus of the blog.

Task 8: Changing the look of my blog

For my blog I browsed the templates and chose the template called 'Simple Litterate' because it fits in with the theme of my blog which is about answering questions about libraries. I did not change around the background colours much, I stuck with the original colours of the theme as I thought the colours matched well to the background picture of the theme. I changed the blog title colour from a silver colour to a brown colour and made the font bold so that it is easier to read.

Task 7: Inserting images.

Task 6: How is my local public library using social media?

Task 4: What is library 2.0?

 What is library 2.0?

Library 2.0 are the websites and media tools that a library will run where users can acess information about the library and search the catalogue using the OPAC system for books or resources they are in need of.

OPAC

Short for online public access catalog. An online record system of all the librarys resources. A great way for a user to check availability of resources before heading into the library. Users can also reserve or request books.

Social Media

Most libraries have links to social media sites that help users stay connected. Some of the social media sites librarys might use are Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram.

Task 3. Social media considerations/ issues.

Social Media Obsession

One issue that can be encountered with social media are users who become too obsessed with likes and comments and caring way too much what people think about their posts and comparing themselves to other people. This can be damaging to ones self confidence and mentality especially to the younger generation who are easily influenced by things they see online.

Privacy Issues

Another issue with social media is that some sites have been known to sell its users data: https://money.cnn.com/2018/06/05/technology/facebook-huawei-china-data-sharing/index.html. This is a major concern for users and a breach of privacy which causes users to not trust these sites or be more vary of the history of these sites. It has caused users to rethink their use of social media platforms and the personal information they choose to share on these sites as well.

Cyberbullying

Lastly a third issue associated with social media tools and applications is the issue of cyber bullies. Cyberbullying is a form of bullying and harassment online. The worrying thing about cyberbullying is bullies can be anonymous and it would be very hard to find out who is behind a fake page used to bully someone. Cyberbullies use fake pages to bully people and spread false rumours about their victims which can be hard to remove once posted online.  This particuarly happens a lot with school aged children and teenagers. Another example of cyberbullying are people who use fake pages to troll and bully famous people online.
